Called the Burgundy of the Mediterranean, the wines created from the famous terroir of Etna are not for the faint of heart. They have wild flavors and textures, fire in their depths. A still active volcano, humans have been growing grapes on the foothills of Mount Etna for centuries, but the region is just becoming noticed by wine lovers and critics alike. Like their Pinot Noir cousins in France, the wines made with Nerello Mascalese are very versatile with food. The volcanic soils and distinct mineral components give this age-worthy wine extraordinary richness and complexity. A rich bouquet, with excellent volume, depth and structure. Great finesse and firm tannins.
"The 2017 Etna Rosso Carusu is 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio that has seen a brief six months in tonneaux. The wine is simple and bright with quite a few hot-vintage accents that recall dark cherry and wild plum.
